ABOUT GIRL-JITSU

Girl-Jitsu supports women in jiu jitsu and other combat sports

The company was established in 2012 by two white belts at the time. After visiting a few women’s jiu jitsu open mats and numerous jiu jitsu schools, we realized the disparity between male and female students and competitors in not just the classroom, but jiu jitsu tournaments as well. Female students were often outnumbered in the gym, and there were less divisions and brackets for females to compete in at jiu jitsu tournaments. And as far as sponsorship went, had that privilege. Girl-Jitsu strives to do its part to sponsor female jiu jitsu fighters as needed.

OUR MISSION

Girl-Jitsu is dedicated to supporting women and girls in all combat sports. We make it a point to attend as many events as possible to hear the voices of those who train and compete. We, too, have been in situations where we were not comfortable training, but did not know better. We want to help other women to know that they are the masters of their training experience, and that there are other women who share their feelings. Our brand of training and casual wear emphasizes our motto of “Pretty.Tough.” We strive to be the go-to brand for not just women in combat sports, but active women in general.

Girl-Jitsu also promotes the idea of being comfortable with who you are

Every year since 2013 we have published a jiu jitsu calendar featuring every day women who train and/or compete. Women from all over the world are encouraged to submit their jiu jitsu — and workout — photos to be a part of this first-of-its-kind calendar. The Girl-Jitsu All Female Fighter calendar has grown to be our most popular product to date.

Girl-Jitsu further encourages females of all ages to share their experiences, feelings, thoughts and advice via our online blog. Women from all over submit articles on what they have gone through, their accomplishments, words of wisdom, and any other topic or issue related to jiu jitsu or training in general; issues they feel are relevant to women in jiu jitsu and other combat sports. Most members of Girl-Jitsu actively train and compete in jiu jitsu tournaments and other combat sports. We see firsthand the issues women face while participating in the combat arena. This is what makes us unique: we live the experience like everyone else.
